Harpist Julia Johnson is an accomplished performer whose work spans solo, orchestral, and chamber music settings. A prizewinning competitor and sought-after collaborator, she has distinguished herself through performances with leading ensembles, appearances on prominent concert stages, and a commitment to artistic excellence.
Julia has appeared as a soloist with the American Fork Symphony, the Utah Valley Symphony, the Utah Symphony, and the Jacobs School of Music Chamber Orchestra. A four-time prizewinner in the American Harp Society National Competition, she was also selected to compete in the prestigious USA International Harp Competition in 2025. She presented the world premiere of Ariel Sol Bertulfo Schwartz’s harp concerto, STRUM!, during her senior recital.
In orchestral settings, Julia has served as Principal Harpist of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic since 2023 and was featured as Guest Principal Harpist with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 2026. She furthered her artistic development as a performer at the Aspen Music Festival and School in 2026.
Julia earned a Bachelor of Music in Harp Performance, Performer’s Certificate, and Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the Jacobs School of Music in 2024 and completed a Master of Music in Harp Performance in 2026, studying with Elzbieta Szmyt. During her graduate studies, she served as Assistant Instructor of Harp at the Jacobs School. She is currently pursuing a Professional Studies Certificate at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she studies with Katherine Siochi, Principal Harpist of the San Francisco Symphony.
In addition to her solo and orchestral work, Julia maintains an active performance schedule at weddings, festivals, and special events throughout the United States. She is also a founding member of a horn and harp duo with hornist David Holloway. Dedicated to championing music by underrepresented composers, the ensemble also creates original arrangements drawn from a wide range of musical traditions, genres, and artistic mediums. The duo presented its debut recital in 2026.
